Silent Vigil

1.9.06

A candle burns

Casting a warm aura

Twilight descends

Ebony night begins to overtake

The waning day

Immortal flame flickering brighter

Each passing moment ticks away

Trails of molten wax marks its passing

Strangers move by

Casting backward glances

Speculating amongst themselves

“What does that eternal flame symbolize?”

In the darkened shadows

Just beyond the illuminations friendly reach

A figure stands

Waiting – Watching – Perpetually patient

Night crawls onwards

Languishing

Callous & uncaring hands of time

Sweep around their weeping hollow faces

Steadfast in its need to move forth

Whatever the cost

Heavy cloak of darkness

Drapes the world within its willowing folds

Onyx night reluctantly ebbs

In unrelenting crimson waves

Daylight breaks

The world, once again, basking in hopeful light

In the unknown window

A candle continues to burn brightly

A shadowy figure patiently stands in wait

Hauntingly for redemption
